Globe Tutorial
by PCC
Part 1
Begin by downloading the Horses zip file from the
main page, or the alternate site. It contains the Horses image, and these tubes:
the Star and Snowglobe snow; the globe image and the globe base used in this
tutorial. Unzip the images and move the tube files into your Tubes folder within
your PaintShop Pro program.
1. Open the horse image in PSP. This image
needs to be sized down to 25%, and because the globe is so dark we will sharpen
the image. From the Menu bar click on Image - Sharpen -
Unsharp mask.
2. Now right-click on the titlebar area of
the horses image and choose Copy, this will put the sharpened horses image on your
clipboard.
3. Next, from the menu bar, open a New Image. (After working this tutorial, I'd make the
Height of the new image 350 so you have plenty of room to work instead of the
300 as shown.)
Now move to the color pallet boxes.
Double-click inside the upper color pallet
boxes,
this new screen will open:
Type in #193D73 for the HTML Code:, continue by double-clicking inside the lower box and
entering the HTML Code of #162F57. Now we will
floodfill our new image with the 162F57 color. Click on the Flood Tool Icon
, then right-click inside the new image we
just created, this should fill it with color.
4. Now, right-click in the titlebar area of
this new image and choose Paste As New Layer. This puts the horses on a layer above the blue background. Use the
mover tool
to move the image into the upper left area of the canvas, after
doing this tut, I would advise positioning it a bit lower than the way it looks
in the image below, this way there is room for the globe base image to be
applied on a later layer. It should look something like this now (only a bit
lower):
5. From the Menu bar click on Layers - New Raser Layer. Leave all the
settings just as they are and click ok.
6. Click on the Tube icon
, then scroll to find the Globe1 Ball drk tube. One click will apply it
to this new layer. It will be the wrong size, so use the Deformation Tool
to move it into position,
and size it to almost cover the Horses image. Your image should now look about
like this.
7. We will now give the Horses image an
interesting edge effect. So click on layer2 of the Layer
Palette. This activates just the Horses image layer. Use the Eraser Tool
, set to round shape, to take
large scallops out of the edge of the image, as shown below.
These are the settings I used to cut out the
scallops:
.
When you're finished the image should look
something like this (Lol, caught my Tool Options palette in this picture but I
am sure you got the idea):
I also move the transparency on the globe down a
little to 85% as I believe the overall image just gets too dark
otherwise.
To finish the effect on the Horses, we will
use the Smudge Tool
.
These setting work well,
.
Place the tool slightly
within the Horses image and drag the color outward. Do this all the way around
the image, when finished it should look something like
this.
